SOFIA (Bulgaria), July 4 (SeeNews) - German-Swiss machine and household equipment manufacturer Liebherr said it invested 17 million euro ($17.7 million) in Liebherr Concrete Technology Maritza, its plant for the manufacturing of concrete mixers in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

This is the third investment by Liebherr in a new production facility in Trakia Economic Zone, an industrial and commercial area on the outskirts of Bulgaria's second biggest city, the family-owned company said in a statement over the weekend.

The site, which was inaugurated on Friday, takes up an area of 37,000 square metres within the city limits and has buildings and warehouses spreading over 12,000 square metres. The plant is already operational, with a headcount of 120.

The company plans to make 500 new concrete mixers per year at the factory, which took two years to build. It already manufactures 2,400 types of parts and pre-assembled units per year.

The investment sum includes the transfer of existing equipment from Germany as well as the purchase of new machines and equipment. It has been invested through Liebherr International's concrete technology business line.

"Our third site here is equipped with the latest production machines to meet growing demand in Europe for high-quality concrete mixers. This location allows us to produce more efficiently for customers in eastern Europe. In our factory in Germany, the elements produced here are assembled for customers in western Europe and other parts of the world. Now our plants in Bulgaria and Germany have an optimal connection," Philipp Liebherr, one of the conglomerate's owners, said at the formal opening ceremony.

Liebherr has been present in Bulgaria for over 20 years and employs more than 2,500 staff. Its other facilities are a plant for the manufacturing of refrigerators and freezers, and a factory for the making of air conditioning systems for railway transport.

The German company owns more than 140 subsidiaries in over 50 countries and has 40 production facilities worldwide. It invested over 700 million euro in total in the business in 2021 alone.
